As successful as Johnson Girls Soccer has been over the five years of play the one thing the Jags don’t have is a district title. The Jags own a Regional Championship in 2011 but they have never finished as the top team in 26-5A.
That can all change this week as the Jags control their own destiny with 2 matches to play going into the final week of the season.
Johnson finished in 2nd last year and 3rd place finishes in 2011 and 2010.
Friday the Jags tied Reagan 0-0 as they welcomed back Morgans Stearns in goal. The senior keeper returned from a successful trip to Spain playing with the U20 USA team playing against international competition. Stearns arrived back from Europe on Wednesday and was between the pipes on Friday vs Reagan.
Stearns has only played in five matches this season but has only given up 2 goals both in her first match of the year against State ranked Plano West. She has since pitched 4 shutouts 2 against Reagan, and one against Churchill and one against Roosevelt.
The Jags currently have accumulated 17 points (2 for each win 1 for each tie) with a 8-1-1 district record and holds a two point lead on Reagan and MacArthur both with 15. This week Johnson can wrap up the district championship with matches against Lee and Madison.
A win over Lee (6-15-1 / 0-10-0) on Tuesday and Johnson will have 19 points and will eliminate Reagan and MacArthur from the district title picture. MacArthur plays its final match on Tuesday and even with a win the most points they can get to 17. Reagan can reach 19 with two wins next week but Johnson owns the tie breaker over the Rattlers with a win and a tie.
A loss or tie to Lee on Tuesday and Johnson will have to try and secure the district tile on Friday on Senior night against Madison.
