Johnson junior Natalie Langan became the first Johnson Athlete to compete in two events at the State Meet in the same year as she finished 4th in both the 3200-meter and 1600-meter runs.
For the third straight year the Johnson track and field program ended its season on the last day of the High School track calender year. While most track and field programs only dream of running in Austin, the Jags competed at the State meet for the third year in a row.
Johnson advanced four individual athletes to the 2012 State Track and Field meet and competed in 5 different events. While Johnson did not advance a relay team this was the first year the jags competed in 5 separate individual events.
Junior Natalie Langan is now arguably the best Track athlete to ever compete for the Blue-on-Blue. Langan will go into her senior season as the District 26-5A and Region IV defending Cross Country Champion and the District 26-5A and Region IV defending champion in the 3200-meter and 1600-meter runs.
Langan fresh off her Region IV 5A record setting race, had a great showing at State placing 4th in both the 3200-meter run and 1600-meter run. The 2-mile run had a blistering pace and the state champion broke the State meet record early Saturday morning. Langan battled to get on the medal stand but came up 4 second short finishing a respectable 4th place.
Langan’s time of 10:35.75 was 6 second faster than her record breaking Region IV Meet record run.
Langan would wait almost 12 hours to get back on the Track but at the end of the meet she would compete in the 1600-meter run and again Langan would finish in 4th. Following another blistering pace Langan finished with a time of 5:01.46 a personal best.
Cameron Williams ran a 21.49 in the 200-meter run and finished in 7th place for the Jaguars in his first trip to the State Meet. Junior Erin Orozco cleared 11 feet 6 inches (PR) to place in 7th in the Pole Vault.
Carnae Dillard, arguably Johnson’s best all around athlete over the schools four year history, competed in the triple jump for her last appearance as a Jaguar. Dillard placed 9th at State in the triple jump and becomes the first Johnson athlete to compete at the State level in two separate sports (Volleyball, Track and Field)
Congratulations to the Johnson track and field program on another great season and good luck to the seniors.
Go Jags!!
