Johnson Baseball 2012

The Johnson Jaguar Varsity baseball team traveled to the NISD tournament on Thursday and came away with an opening round victory over Clemens and improved their record to 2-0. Unlike the Jags first game of the season where they had to come from behind against Champion, on Thursday vs the Buffs the Jaguars never trailed with Tyler Day taking center stage with a spectacular pitching performance.

The night belong to Day from the start of the game. Day struck out 9 batters of the 22 he faced Thursday night and gave up only two hits and no walks. Day threw 89 pitches over the 6 innings with 61 of the 89 going for strikes.

At the plate the Jags coelcted just 6 hits and 4 base-on-balls in the game but pushed two base runners over the plate to record a 2-0 victory. The 2 runs was more than enough with Day dominating the Buffaloes.

Johnson scored it’s first run in the bottom of the 2nd inning when Zach Hammer doubled to right field and Tanner Wall scored from second base. The score would stay 1-0 in favor of the Jags until the bottom of the 5th inning when Connor Roy took a two strike one ball pitch to left field for a double plating Mark Whitehead from third.

JoJo Callazo collected two hits in the game the only Jaguars with a multi-hit effort.

Johnson will be back at NISD field #1 on Friday to face off with Seguin at 11AM. The Matadors come into the game with a 1-1 record after defeating Marshall 4-2 on Thursday.

Go Jags!!
